The Falany Performing Arts Center continues to evolve bringing the community quality live events that follow health and safety protocols. The Flint Hall stage may be empty; however, the Falany Performing Arts Center’s new outdoor stage is primed to showcase talented artists in the coming months.

“The Platters” performing on the Falany Performing Arts Center outdoor stage.

The Falany Performing Arts Center (FPAC) featured its first performances in March, with the Reinhardt Opera Theatre program’s “A Night of Menotti” and an upbeat night with “The Platters.” The outdoor stage was purchased in Fall 2020 after a successful series of “Six Feet a Pod” events on Reinhardt’s Intramural Field to meet the community’s desire for live performance – and of Reinhardt’s performing arts students!

Through the addition of the outdoor stage, FPAC can utilize their parking lot as a safe way to bring artists to Waleska.

“Kudos to Reinhardt and the Falany for investing in the outdoor stage! The sound acoustics were perfect. The logistics of drop-off and close parking really worked well. Folks sure got there early to pick their pod. The team of volunteers was helpful – lots of blue shirts. They made sure everyone knew what to do, where the restrooms were, and [made sure everyone wore] masks outside your pod. The pods provided safe spacing and privacy, but close enough to talk with neighbors,” said Buzz and Joan Ahrens of their experience at “The Platters” concert.

John Chastain, a frequent concertgoer at the FPAC, wasn’t sure how he felt about the outdoor concert experience – until attending “The Platters” concert.

“It was more than I ever imagined. Two things come to mind as to the enjoyment of the night: one, ‘The Platters’ are not just singers, they’re entertainers and two, the outside venue gave people plenty of room to dance to the music – something you don’t see much on an ‘inside’ performance,” said Chastain. “Now that I’ve experienced one ‘in a pod,’ I can’t wait for the next one!”

Join the FPAC outside for their next event on April 2 featuring Steve Leslie performing the music of James Taylor. James Taylor is a Grammy Award-winning songwriter, working with artists like George Strait, Rickey Skaggs, Rhonda Vincent and Darius Rucker. This authentic and spellbinding concert with Leslie’s warm baritone and exceptional guitar technique will have audiences singing along to classics, such as “Carolina In My Mind,” “Shower the People” and “You’ve Got a Friend.”
