What is an Interlibrary Loan?
Interlibrary Loan, ILL, is a service that allows currently enrolled students, faculty and staff of the University to request books, photocopies of articles and other materials that are not owned by our library from other libraries. The lending library forwards these materials to the Hill Freeman Library and Spruill Learning Center for your use.
How do I make a request?
Complete a Request a Book or Article form or drop by the library to make your request in person. Provide as much information as you can to help speed up the process.
How long will it take to receive the material?
- Books take from 10 days to 4 weeks and arrive by mail.
- Articles take from 24 hours to 2-3 weeks.
You will be contacted when the requested material arrives. Items can be picked up from the service desk on the second floor. Materials not picked up within 10 days of arrival will be returned to the lending library.
Are there any limits on what I can borrow?
Generally, the following types of material are NOT available through Interlibrary loan:
- Periodical issues or volumes
- Some audiovisual material
- Fragile, rare or valuable materials
- Bulky items
- Special Collection materials
- Reference books
- Genealogical research material
How long can I keep interlibrary loan materials?
Books are typically checked out for 2-3 weeks, but the loan period is determined by the lending library. Books borrowed through interlibrary loan are subject to recall by the lending library at any time during the loan period.
Renewals may be requested by telephone by contacting Stephanie Olsen at 770.720.5584 or by e-mail at least three days before the book is due. Renewal is at the discretion of the lending library. In making a renewal request, provide both the title and the interlibrary loan (ILL) number for each book.
Where do I pick up and return Interlibrary Loans?
Pick up and return interlibrary loans at the service desk on the second floor of the Hill Freeman Library and Spruill Learning Center on Reinhardt's Waleska campus.
