One way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this year is by participating in a short stroll for a great cause.

The 2nd Annual Shamrock Stroll .5K is set for Saturday, March 16 in downtown Jasper. The stroll will start at the Board of Education building and finish at South Main and Spring streets. All proceeds from the race will support the Pickens Scholars program, providing scholarships for Pickens County students attending Reinhardt University.

The registration fee is $25 and includes a race bib, T-shirt, medal and one beverage ticket. Registration the day of the event is $30, and children 12 and under run for free. Additional T-shirts may be purchased: $10 for children and $15 for adults.

Awards will be given for first, second and third place for Most Creative Costume (male and female), Most Creative Dog Costume, Grandest Leprechaun (male and female) and Youngest Leprechaun (male and female.)

The Finish Line Party will be worth the short hop. Along with the contests, there will be a food truck park, Coca-Cola and Reformation Brewery products, face painting, rock painting, door prizes, live music and a bounce house. Pets are welcome.

Register or sponsor a runner at Reinhardt.edu/stroll. Pre-registration pick up will take place March 15, from 2-5 p.m., at the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce in Jasper. Race Day registration begins at 4 p.m. on March 16, and the race will kick off at 5 p.m.
