An exhibition showcasing the mesmerizing and meaningful work of Reinhardt Art Department Chairman Jym Davis opened this week at the William W. Fincher, Jr. and Eunice L. Fincher Visual Arts Center. Titled Final Form, the show is open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday through February 28, and admission is free.

National Public Radio’s City Lights on WABE 90.1 FM featured an interview with Davis on February 11th and promoted the exhibition at Reinhardt. Listeners heard Davis explain how he transitioned from a photographer to a self-taught mask-maker. He detailed the art he created during his five national park artist-in-residency experiences which transformed his art practice by living and working in nature. Davis, who also goes by the name False Face, wears his masks and costumes in complementary natural settings, resulting in stunning photography.

The exhibition includes elaborate costumes, masks, flags, and photographs from his studio practice. Davis elaborated, “The show’s title Final Form, refers to my recent interest in maximalist artistic presentation, a concept of transformation where each iteration increases in extravagance. My new work pulls from a variety of influences which include European folk festivals, medieval iconography, and science fiction.”
