Phi Beta Lambda students excel at state competition, qualify for nationals By Madelyn Montgomery Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) students went above and beyond at the Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Conference in Dunwoody April 6 and 7, placing in four separate categories and making Reinhardt proud.
The following students placed: First-Place Impromptu Speaking – Joshua Elisa, sophomore business major from Marietta;
Second-Place Impromptu Speaking – Kristen Holder, senior business management major from Emerson;
First-Place Business Presentation – Joshua Elisa and Ariel Murphy, junior sport studies major from Atlanta;
Second-Place Social Media Marketing – Ariel Murphy Third-Place Job Interview – Kristen Holder
Alongside these accomplishments, Holder and Murphy were elected to the State Phi Beta Lambda board, and Holder was also selected as Who’s Who in PBL.
PBL is an integral part of the McCamish School of Business and is a tremendous learning experience for business majors as they prepare to embark on their professional journey outside of Reinhardt’s campus.
“One reason we encourage students to be part of this organization is because it is a nationally recognized organization,” said instructor of business, Cindy Moss. “It is a great item to include on their resumes that they either won or placed in the top two events at the state and national level.”
“It meant a lot to see the fruit of my hard work come into vision,” said sophomore business major, Joshua Elisa. “I know that winning awards like these will propel me into my future and enable me to continue the hard work.”
Phi Beta Lambda members that placed in the top two at the state level are invited to compete at the national level. This year’s national competition will take place June 23-26 in Baltimore, Maryland. Approximately $3,500 is needed to send three students and an advisor for the trip to Baltimore so donations are welcome and plans for future fundraisers are in the works.
