Reinhardt University President Dr. Kina S. Mallard and Dr. Timothy Oyebode Olagbemiro, vice chancellor at Edwin Clark University, signed an articulation agreement June 7 at Reinhardt to strengthen the connection between the universities and open the doors for more student opportunities.

Reinhardt University and Edwin Clark University in Nigeria have established an articulation agreement that provides opportunities to share international exchange experiences and disciplinary knowledge.

“We have created exciting new pathways for our students and faculty with this signing,” said Reinhardt President Dr. Kina S. Mallard. “We look forward to a relationship where we all benefit from cultural and academic activities that are consistent with the missions of Edwin Clark and Reinhardt.”

The agreement also provides for joint academic activities that include faculty and student exchanges, academic interactive seminars, exchange of academic materials and relevant cultural information.

“We look forward to exchange opportunities, such as study abroad experiences, that will help globalize our students while deepening their understanding of their specific fields of study,” Reinhardt Provost Dr. Mark Roberts said during the June 7 signing at Reinhardt.

Edwin Clark was founded in 2015 and is located in Kiagbodo, Nigeria. The university offers an academically rigorous education in a creative community where learning and values meet and where students are prepared to reach their full potential as informed citizens of their communities, Nigeria and the world.

“We believe Reinhardt is a great place for serious students to study,” said Dr. Timothy Oyebode Olagbemiro, vice chancellor at Edwin Clark University. “We are very glad to officially cement our relationship with Reinhardt in this way.”

The new partnership is a natural next step for the institutions. For five years, Reinhardt University’s AfrikaREADS program has provided books and supplies to universities in Africa. This year’s donation included 7,000 books given to multiple African universities, including Edwin Clark.

“In 2015, we gave 5,000 books to Edwin Clark University in Warri, and in 2016, we gave them another 5,000 books, 50 computers, printers and overhead projectors,” said Tunji Adesan, director of Reinhardt’s Academic Support Office. “Through our donation, Edwin Clark University was able to get their accreditation, and they have the largest collection of books from Reinhardt University.”
