Section 4 - Terms & ConditionsNoyce Scholarship recipients will be expected to: enter into an agreement with Reinhardt University, committing to teach full-time in a high-need* school as a licensed teacher in mathematics or science for two years for each scholarship year; complete a science or mathematics degree with a GPA of 3.0 or higher; complete the teaching certification program within two years of receiving a Noyce Scholarship; meet the teaching commitment within eight years of completion of the program; participate in the Noyce Council and in mentoring activities with teacher mentors and other scholars; upon graduation, complete an exit interview with the Office of Financial Aid and sign an agreement regarding continuing responsibilities as a Noyce Scholar; and; participate in seminars and assessment activities required by the program. ; *Definition of High-Need Local Educational Agency For the purposes of this agreement, a "high-need local education agency" is a public-school district that meets at least one of the following definitions: It has at least one school in which 50 percent or more of the enrolled students are eligible for participation in the free and reduced lunch program. It has at least one school in which: A) more than 34 percent of the academic classroom teachers at the secondary level (across all academic subjects) do not have an undergraduate degree with a major or minor in, or graduate degree in, the academic field in which they teach the largest percentage of their classes; or B) more than 34 percent of the teachers in two academic departments do not have an undergraduate degree with a major or minor in, or a graduate degree in the academic field in which they teach the largest percentage of their classes. It has at least one school whose teacher attrition rate has been 15 percent or more over the last three school years. Section 5 - Applicant Confirmation FormPlease read and check each of the following statements to indicate you understand and agree should you be selected as a Noyce Scholar.1 I certify that all the information in this application is true and complete to the best of my knowledge. 2 I understand that I must maintain a 3.0 or higher GPA to earn Georgia teacher certification. 3 I understand that I must complete a major in a science field or mathematics and complete the teacher certification program for that field. 4 I am able to pass all criminal background checks that are required by the Georgia Department of Education (please see the Reinhardt University Teacher Education Handbook for the required clearances). 5 I understand that I am required to teach full time as a certified biology or mathematics teacher in a high-need public school district for two years for every year of Noyce Scholarship support and that this commitment must be completed within 8 years of graduation. If I fail to complete the teaching obligation as specified, I must repay the Noyce Scholarship money received. 6 I understand I must have satisfactory ratings on the Noyce Teacher Scholar Evaluation form throughout my progression in the program. This form includes personal dispositions, content knowledge, and instructional skills necessary to be a successful teacher candidate. 7 I agree to participate in the STEM Teacher and Education Development Programs, and in mentoring activities with research and teacher mentors and other scholars (when possible), attend the CITEL yearly teaching conference and the Summer STEM Camp thru completion of my teaching obligation. 8 I agree to participate in seminars and assessment activities required by the program. 9 I certify I am a U.S. citizen or national, or permanent resident alien.
