Emergency Management

Emergency Management

The Department of Public Safety at Reinhardt University is tasked with the responsibility of Campus Emergency Management through the Office for Student Affairs.  Through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s National Incident Management System (NIMS), an all-hazards approach to mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery is taken to continually strive for improvements to the University’s ability to continue the core mission of education while providing for the safety of all community members and property.

Mitigation strategies are focused on preventing future emergencies, reducing the chances of an emergency happening, and/or minimizing the damaging effects of unavoidable emergencies.

Preparedness activities include all-hazards planning and adapting industry-wide best-practice protocols based on our specific geographic and community needs.  From employee training to working with food service vendors on food stock, these preparations are made to save lives and property.

Response actions are taken to save lives and prevent further property damage in an emergency situation.  From tornado warnings to natural gas leaks, safely putting plans into action during and immediately after an event is critical for the campus community.

Recovery activities are focused on returning Reinhardt University back to “normal” allowing for the continuation of educational activities.  As a complex community involving many support functions including social, housing, dining, sports, etc, proper and prompt recovery of all aspects is vital.
