Reinhardt University will host its 2nd Annual Clay Shooting Classic at Garland Mountain Sporting Clays in Waleska on April 13 with proceeds going to support student success scholarships for RU Eagle athletes.

Building on the success of its inaugural Clay Shooting Classic, Reinhardt’s Office of Advancement and the Department of Athletics has been working to enlist sponsors, shooters and community supporters almost since that last shot was fired last April.

“The Clay Shooting Classic is an excellent way to enjoy the beautiful spring weather while supporting our remarkable student-athletes,” said Dale Morrissey, director of development and external relations for Reinhardt University. “We are honored by the community’s continued support for Reinhardt Athletics.”

The event includes a continental breakfast, the clay shooting competition, lunch and awards. During the tournament, each four-member team will shoot one round of sporting clays—100 targets over 13 different stations—in one of two divisions: beginner-to-intermediate or intermediate-to-advanced. One team will earn the winning title and will take home the team trophy.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and participants should bring a 12- or 20-gauge shotgun, eye-wear and ear protection. Rental shotguns will be available on-site at Garland Mountain Sporting Clays. Registration fees are $125 for individuals and $450 for a four-member team. Ammunition is provided as part of the entry fee.

“As a former student-athlete, coach and now administrator, I know the value of scholarship support for athletes who otherwise would not be able to attend college. Reinhardt’s community of supporters is remarkable,” said assistant athletic director, Jeffrey Pourchier.

“If you haven’t already made plans to join us on April 13, it’s not too late to register to shoot or to help with a sponsorship gift. And, thank you to everyone who is supporting this great event!” he said.
