This academic year, Reinhardt’s new Center for Academic Program Support expands the assistance students can seek to succeed in their classes. The Center’s creation merged the newly renamed Tutoring Center, the library staff, and the Academic Support Office (ASO). All are now located within the Hill Freeman Library and under the direction of Shannon Gibson, whose role expanded to executive director of library services and the Center for Academic Program Support.
Thanks to these changes, students can more easily gain access to free tutoring, librarian expertise on tasks like research and citations, and the ASO, whose provisions include note-taking services and organizational skills coaching.
The Tutoring Center expanded to offer walk-in hours and study groups for subjects including math, science, writing, reading, and research. The content for designated drop-in times and faculty-led peer groups mirrors the curriculum throughout the semester. Additionally, one-on-one tutoring services now accept both walk-ins and appointments.
Charity Robertson, Assistant Professor of Biology and Tutoring Center Director explained, “Peer group delivery will build retention through the connection and community-building between students, and between students and University resources.” She added that her team also offers bridge-building to other services and resources. “We take our roles seriously regarding the care and support for students.”
ASO Director Tunji Adesesan moved to the library, on the same floor as the Tutoring Center. Adesesan provides academic coaching to help all students succeed in time management, accountability, goals, and planning. He provides additional services for those who need ADA accommodation.
