The Foundation of Wesley Woods honored Reinhardt Emerita Trustee Nancy Gordy Simms, DHL (RU-H2025), at the 36th annual Heroes, Saints, and Legends Gala. The non-profit foundation provides connection, well-being programs, financial resources, and promise for older adults in communities across North Georgia.
Wesley Woods’ event on September 18, 2025, named Simms as one of Atlanta’s esteemed leaders who transformed the Atlanta area community through a lifetime of service and philanthropy. Foundation President Diane Vaughn stated, “Nancy Simms’ enduring legacy in hospitality truly embodies the ideals we celebrate each year.”
Simms, who received a Doctorate of Humane Letters (DHL) at Reinhardt’s 2025 commencement, joined Reinhardt’s Board of Trustees in 1985. Her decades of enduring philanthropy made numerous initiatives and scholarships possible. She currently serves as Chairman of the Board and former CEO for the iconic Varsity restaurants, a business founded by her parents, Evelyn “Mimi” Jackson and Frank Gordy (RU-1924), who met as students on the Reinhardt campus.
The wide-ranging extent of Simms’ legacy of devoted service, support, and impact on Georgia communities as a businesswoman, civic leader, and humanitarian continues to garner prestigious recognition.
