Reinhardt Emerita Professor of Psychology S. Beth Russell, Ph.D., passed away on January 1, 2026. Dr. Russell began her 30-year career at Reinhardt in 1988 and served the institution until her retirement in 2018. Initially, she held the role of Director of Counseling and Career Services and later joined the faculty as Associate Professor of Psychology.

During her tenure in the psychology department, Dr. Russell oversaw student internships, helping with job placement and research experience while mentoring their academic and career paths.

In recognition of her expertise, dedication, and impact, Dr. Russell was awarded the Elizabeth Moss Bailey ’28 Award in 2009 and was also a recipient of the Vulcan Teaching Excellence Award.

President Mark A. Roberts, Ph.D., reflected, “Dr. Beth Russell leaves a lasting legacy through her teaching, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to student success. She will be remembered for her professionalism, generosity, and profound influence on generations of Reinhardt students and colleagues. Her contributions to Reinhardt and to the field of psychology will not be forgotten.”
