Four new student-created portraits of renowned scientists now add even more depth to the entryway of the Samuel C. Dobbs Building and John L. Franklin Science Center. The works are part of an ongoing campus collaboration between the art department and academics across campus to showcase notable artists and scientists. They can be found across campus, including the University Theater, the William W. Fincher, Jr. and Eunice L. Fincher Visual Arts Center, the communications wing of the Falany Performing Arts Center, and now the science center.

Associate Professor of Art Jym Davis has led the “Hall of Portraits” project in his Intro to Art Class since 2019. Each portrait begins with collaged images on canvas and is completed with a student-designed stencil of the featured scientist. The collage materials highlight details related to each scientist’s work and interests. The Fall class featured Charles Darwin (1809–1882), Tyrone Hayes (1967– ), Jane Goodall (1934–2025), and George Washington Carver (1864–1943).

The following students created the latest portraits: Bennett Cherry, Christian Dawson, Tramaine Demps, Josiah Ford, Jorja Gungl, Diego Izaguirre, Madison Johnson, Edward Keller, Pedro Luciano, Joshua Priest, Aaleyah Rogers, Jamal Savane, Atiba Shaw Jr., Titus Tucker Jr., Thomas Union IV, Jaden Ward, and Terry Wright.
