
Kurt H. Sutton (RU-1965) was born in Germany in 1944 and grew up in Canton, Georgia. He passed in his sleep on March 21, 2026, at his home in Buford, Georgia. Sutton was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
After attending Reinhardt College, Sutton went on to graduate from the University of Georgia in 1968 and earned his Master of Education in Education Administration from Western Carolina in 1971.
Sutton became an educator, coach, soldier, musician, entrepreneur, and performer. He toured the country as a musician and motivational speaker, taught at Canton Elementary School, Woodstock High School, Sprayberry High School in Marietta, and Western Carolina University.
He was widely known for his portrayal of Mark Twain, performing An Evening with Mark Twain Presented by Samuel L. Clemens on stage nationwide. He entertained the audience with hilarious tall tales, witty humor, playing the harmonica, guitar, and banjo, and sing-alongs. On multiple occasions, he performed at Reinhardt’s Falany Performing Arts Center.
Services will be held at Darby Funeral Home in Canton on Friday, April 24, 2026, at 2:00PM with visitation beginning at 1:00PM. There will be no graveside service.
