MAT Online - Masters of Art in Teaching in Elementary Education

Reinhardt’s Online Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Elementary Education is designed for currently employed college graduates with bachelor’s degrees in fields other than education. The online one-year format makes attaining a Masters degree in Elementary education a realistic accomplishment for adults, both working and non-working.

MAT graduates earn a master's degree and a recommendation for a Georgia Level 5 Certificate in Elementary Education (P-5). Both are essential for job applicants seeking to enter the teaching field.

Collaborative and Supportive
All MAT candidates who enter the program bring with them a variety of undergraduate backgrounds and experiences. Our MAT candidate teachers are provided a community of learning, support and guidance from the Price School of Education. In this environment, each MAT teacher candidate can develop collaborative partnerships and receive leadership from faculty and staff who are knowledgeable, consistent and accessible to all candidates.

Differentiation and Assessment
Differentiated instruction in a typical classroom recognizes that students vary in their academic abilities, learning styles, interests, background knowledge, experiences and levels of motivation for learning. Reinhardt’s MAT program offers the same differentiated instruction in its classrooms.

Care and Challenge
The MAT program is based on the belief that student differences should be understood, appreciated and authentic work. This is achieved in a collaborative, caring and academically challenging classroom environment. Teaching practice is strengthened when each MAT candidate explores and implements multiple approaches and strategies for meeting the learning needs of all students.

Field Experience, Clinical Practice and Clinical Residency
The MAT program ensures that candidate teachers have numerous, highly effective and well-designed field experience opportunities to examine quality curriculum, relevant and highly engaged instruction from our collaborative teachers. Extensive field experiences and Clinical Practice will work toward preparing teacher candidates for successful Clinical Residency and a future of effective teaching and successful learning for all students.
