Reinhardt gathered to celebrate the lives we’ve lost in the past two years.

In the past year, the loss of those dear to us has become too familiar as many experienced this pain without the opportunity to honor their memory and celebrate their life. As the world collectively experienced a new way to mourn, the Reinhardt University community also endured loss, commemorated at the annual Campus Memorial Service on Monday morning.

The Campus Memorial Service offers those connected to the University a moment to acknowledge the loved ones who passed away since last spring. This moment allows a space to gather around our community, providing comfort to those grieving.

The Reinhardt Community celebrated the lives of loved ones and those affected by COVID-19 at the Donor Plaza. President Mark A. Roberts, Ph.D, began the event with the poem “In Memorium A.H.H.,” by Alfred Tennyson.

The poem was followed by a prayer and the singing of “Amazing Grace” by Jared Brooks ’24. Campus Pastor Joshua Garner then read each name of the lives lost connected to the University one by one, with Rev. Brian Smith of the Waleska United Methodist Church ringing a bell after each name. The list concluded with a bell ringing for the 570,000 American lives lost to COVID-19 and 57 seconds as a moment of silence to commemorate those losses.

We will never forget those who live on in our hearts and minds:
