Guest Recital 9/21

This program explores how African American composers have responded to European classical music by weaving in elements of American folk songs, spirituals, blues, and jazz. Through a fusion of high art poetry and music, this performance uses vivid imagery to convey the rich and complex African American experience. These songs are meant to resonate with all people, regardless of race, nationality, or background. We present this recital to celebrate and preserve the invaluable contributions of African American composers to American culture and Western art music.
