Homecoming 2019: Life is Sweeter at RU

By Jordan Beach

It’s that time of year again as alumni gather at the University they once called home with students who stand as the current Eagles to reminisce on sweet memories.

On Nov. 2, Reinhardt University’s football team take on Cincinnati Christian University for the Homecoming game at 1:30 p.m. on Ken White Field at University Stadium, and they need the blue and gold spirit cheering them on. At halftime, the 2019 Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned during the Homecoming Coronation.

Gear up for the game at the Homecoming Tailgate at 11 a.m. and remember those days spent on Reinhardt’s campus. Be sure to visit with the Alumni Board of Governors, who will be giving out snacks. Before the game starts, there will be an award presentation to the recipients of the Captain A.M. Reinhardt Award and the Jason Gamel Blue and Gold Spirit Award to celebrate Reinhardt’s dedicated faculty and staff.

Get an early start and join Reinhardt University Saturday morning at 8 a.m. in downtown Canton to support the Cherokee Scholars scholarship program at the Born to Run 5K Run/Walk. Register now for $25 and to guarantee a T-shirt.

Throughout the week, there’s plenty for alumni and the community to enjoy leading up to the big game. The University Wind Ensemble performs at 7:30 p.m. in Flint Hall at the Falany Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, Oct. 29. Join Reinhardt’s Campus Ministries at 8 p.m. in the Bannister Glasshouse for their weekly worship service on Tuesday where all are welcome.

If you’re looking for a unique way to spend Halloween, bring you blankets and chairs to the Donor Plaza for Reinhardt’s “The Complete Works of Shakespeare, Abridged.” The show, performed by Reinhardt’s Theatre program and directed by theater major Lizzy Morang, starts at 7:30 p.m. with free admission.

Along with the football team, the men’s basketball team plays during Homecoming week, on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. and Friday at 7:30 p.m., in the James and Sis Brown Athletic Center.

Students have plenty of events to celebrate and make memories of their own with the Block Party and Pep Rally on Monday, Oct. 28, Sandy Candy Tuesday morning and Penny Wars throughout the week to support the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer. The week will conclude with the student-only Homecoming Formal at 8 p.m. in the Bannister Glasshouse.

Mark your calendars to join us throughout the week for all the Homecoming fun and excitement. After all, Life is Sweeter at RU!
