Reinhardt’s study abroad program offers the opportunity for students to learn new things, experience new cultures and make unforgettable memories. Reinhardt has several opportunities this summer that students can take part in.
As the world continues to become increasingly global and interconnected, traveling and experiencing new cultures firsthand offers the ability for students to cultivate skills necessary for success in one’s career and life.
“Study abroad helps students build global competencies. They learn to embrace different cultures, be comfortable with change, and develop critical thinking,” said Dr. Katrina Smith, associate professor of psychology and International Studies program coordinator.
Reinhardt is offering study abroad opportunities to Greece and Japan this summer.
The 18-day trip to Greece, led by Brett Mullinix, assistant professor of art, is set for May 5-22. The cost is $3,700, which includes round-trip airfare, accommodations, transportation while in Greece, breakfast every day and two free lunches and dinners.
Study abroad trips with Reinhardt University provide immersive educational experiences, such as learning the art of pottery from artists in Greece.
Mullinix has taken students to Greece since 2001 and has made several friends and professional contacts along the way. These contacts allow him to provide students with access to information, events and experiences not normally accessible to travelers. Mullinix structures the trip in a way that provides students with an uncharacteristic education compared to the typical classroom style. Students are given ample down time to explore the country of Greece and all it has to offer while also challenging them academically with the courses being offered along with the trip.
“The whole purpose for the study abroad experience is to, of course, learn but more importantly to explore and discover not only about another culture but about oneself,” said Mullinix, “That’s the core and focus of our trip.”

Students also have the chance this summer to travel to Japan with Elizabeth Smith, assistant professor of math. Space is limited, and there are still a couple slots open on the trip. The trip will take place May 18-28 (dates are subject to change). Participants will have the opportunity to travel to major cities like Hiroshima, Tokyo, Kyoto and more. The price for students is included in summer tuition and includes airfare, hotels, most meals, 24/7 bilingual tour director, entrance to all events and local expert guides when registered for at least four classes. Students have five classes to take in conjunction with the trip.
