Fall Break, a much-needed time of rest, and those who traveled with Campus Ministries to Camp Gideon last week experienced a special kind of peace.
Campus Ministries offered a free Fall Retreat to renew not only students’ minds, but their souls. Fellowshipping formed new friendships while worries melted away as the bonfire crackled and praises were lifted, a unique way to spend time off campus.
The group spent three days at Camp Gideon, a nonprofit campsite on Lake Allatoona, providing students space to play on the water, host devotionals and spend time worshipping.
“The first night of worship was one of the most impactful to me,” said sophomore Nataleigh Long. “Watching everyone give themselves to the worship and song and having the Holy Spirit move among the group was powerful and refreshing.”
“This retreat helped me focus on my faith through reflection on scripture, prayer and worship,” said sophomore Daphne LeFevers. She appreciated the community and escaping from reality for a few days.
Long also enjoyed unplugging from life to reconnect with God.
“I have always personally felt more connected to my faith by spending time in nature and Camp Gideon was a great place for that,” said Long.
Nearly 30 attended, meditating on the main message throughout the trip, Matthew 6:33: “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
A letter-writing activity was also incorporated into each day, writing thoughtful notes to those who serve others, those needing encouragement and a letter to themselves to be read in a year, a chance to reflect on their relationship with God.
Breaking away from the constant pressures of the semester refocused Long’s attention on what refills her spirit.
“Spending time around people of faith, worshiping and fellowshipping with them helped remind me of the important things in life and that there really is life outside of work and school,” she said.
