The field of science involves a constant investigation of the unknown and often challenges what one believes to be known. Dr. Zach Felix, along with Reinhardt alumni, discovered a new species of salamander, whose identification was previously associated with an entirely separate species.

The second Community Gathering of the spring semester will be held in the Hill Freeman Library Community Room on Feb. 26 at 4 p.m.

“Those attending can gain an understanding of how science works, how scientific discoveries are made, and a better understanding of what a species is and how they are described,” said Felix, associate professor of biology.

The presentation will include a detailed explanation of the discovery, with information that will intrigue all audiences. Felix views this presentation as a learning experience for all disciplines and backgrounds.

“For anyone in attendance, I would say to come and learn about something different. Part of being an educated person is to be exposed to a range of topics. For biology students, I would say to come and see its relevancy to the things you are learning about in class” said Felix.

The event is free and open to the public.
