Faculty and students of the Shade and Gladys Price School of Education (PSOE) represented Reinhardt University at the Georgia State Capitol on Dyslexia Day on February 4th. After excitedly seeing the Reinhardt logo displayed on the grand staircase, they met face-to-face with legislators and delivered information to advocate for the dyslexia community.

Reinhardt is one of only 13 universities in Georgia to offer a dyslexia endorsement for educators, recognizing the importance of identifying students with dyslexia and learning tools to help them succeed. The group explained how they use this endorsement in the classroom to Senator Charlice Byrd and heard from Senator Billy Hickman and Representative Bethany Ballard regarding collaboration on a literacy and dyslexia bill.

Student Madison Hasty (RU-2026) reflected, “My peers and I had the incredible opportunity to watch the senate, walk around the Capitol, and meet with some amazing people! I am so thankful to have spoken with many representatives who are just as passionate about dyslexia and helping students as I am!”

Additionally, the PSOE group met with representatives from Decoding Dyslexia and the International Dyslexia Association, all with the purpose of making a difference.
