Ruthabigail Nunfio (RU-2028) with Dr. Fred Tarrant, dean of the School of the Arts.

Reinhardt began a new academic tradition on March 20, 2026. Major Declaration Day provided a unique opportunity for students and their school dean to co-sign a certificate signifying their chosen major.

The event symbolized a critical benchmark in each student’s college journey, midway between their induction and commencement. The signings recognized undergraduates with 24 to 70 earned credit hours for reaching this academic milestone. Students celebrated foreseeing their goals and the hard work that brought them to this moment. The Registrar’s Office ensured documentation of each declaration.

Students especially enjoyed meeting with faculty and connecting with other Eagles in their major, strengthening the relationships that support them throughout their pursuit of a degree. Ja’Sarah Gray (RU-2028) reflected, “I find this really cool because I changed my major and I met my dean today. So this is really helpful for people who are thinking about changing their major, and to see others’ majors.”

Held at the Steve and Judy McClure Fire Pit, the occasion included food and photo opportunities. Student Government Association President Daniela Rangel (RU-2026) played an instrumental role in developing the concept into a new tradition.
