Interim Vice President of Academic Affairs Ken Wheeler
Reinhardt University appointed Dr. Ken Wheeler as the interim vice president of academic affairs (VPAA). His selection coincides with the announcement of Provost and VPAA John Miles’ upcoming departure.
Dr. Wheeler’s selection ensures a steady continuation of leadership, stated University President Mark Roberts, “Dr. Wheeler is a distinguished professor of history, the dean of the college of humanities, sciences, and technology, a trusted faculty leader, a scholar with multiple publications, a teacher who values student undergraduate research, and a person who values access to high-quality education for all.”
Dr. Wheeler expressed, “I am excited about this opportunity to serve Reinhardt University and its students in a new way. Many good things are happening all over campus, and I look forward to being involved as much as possible.”
Since 1999, Dr. Wheeler has served as a professor, mentor, and academic leader. He earned his Ph.D. in History at Ohio State University. He is a former president of the Georgia Association of Historians, and an award-winning author.

Departing Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs John Miles
Dr. Miles departs Reinhardt following his selection as VPAA and provost at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois. He will begin his new role on July 7, 2025.
Dr. Roberts expressed gratitude for his leadership, “Dr. Miles’s accomplishments while serving Reinhardt University are many: leading efforts to submit a timely SACSCOC Fifth-Year Review, leading the implementation of Core Ed efforts to resurrect online program recruitment, leading a data-driven process to assist in managing scholarship distributions, leading the academic unit through innovative curricular change, leading the launch of the Diverse Talents and Scholars Program, guiding administrative processes in financial aid and admissions, integrating carefully Rize programming into majors and minors to augment academic options for students, encouraging Reinhardt faculty in their important work with students, and inspiring new programs like the MFA in Choreography and MSN in Leadership.”
