The Pickens Scholar program gathered this week to plan their efforts in providing educational opportunities at Reinhardt University for Pickens County residents.

The members of the Pickens Scholars committee met at Atlantic Coast Conservancy in Jasper, Ga. to review last year’s fundraisers and express ideas while looking ahead for the 2020-21 academic year.

Dale Morrissey, senior director of community engagement, is proud to see the amount of support from her hometown for her alma mater, where she has worked for and volunteered for many years.

“Pickens County has shown so much support of the program since it started,” said Morrissey. “We’re excited to have the Cauble School of Nursing & Health Sciences in Pickens County. Providing scholarship just helps further educate these individuals, including those pursuing nursing degrees. It’s so encouraging for the community to support them by raising funds for the Pickens Scholars program through our events and fundraising.”

Pickens Chamber of Commerce president Amberle Godfrey will take on the role of committee chair for the fourth year in a row.

“Investing in education is so important and rewarding,” said Godfrey. “We are proud of our Pickens County Reinhardt students and alumni and are eager to see the program grow so we can continue to support our local community.”

Plans for the 4th annual Shamrock Stroll .5K are already underway. Mark your calendars for March 13 to come out and have fun while providing education for Pickens County students.
