Get your running shoes ready for the Reinhardt University 5th annual “Born to Run 5K,” rain or shine on Saturday, Nov. 2 in downtown Canton.
The annual 5K is a part of a yearly effort to raise money for Cherokee Scholars, which aids in the funding for the University’s Cherokee County Grant Program. This grant program helps provide support for Cherokee County students attending Reinhardt University, providing scholarships and pushing Cherokee County residents forward in their future.
“The Cherokee County scholarship means a lot knowing that our community supports those in the county that are wanting to get their college degrees,” said Tanner Carruth, early childhood education major and baseball player for Reinhardt. “This has provided me with funds to be able to continue getting an education. It also helps me want to strive harder to be successful.”
The race will be located in Cannon Park in downtown Canton at 130 East Main St. Pre-registration is $25, and registration after Oct. 21 will be $30. Registration for runners age 12 and under will be $15. If unable to attend or run on race day, support a student for $25. Race day registration will begin at 7 a.m. and the race will begin at 8 a.m. Early registration packet pickup will be Nov. 1 from 3-6 p.m. at Northside Cherokee Hospital, 450 Northside Cherokee Blvd., Canton.
“This fundraiser is a wonderful opportunity for the community to support Cherokee County students,” said Dale Morrissey, senior director of constituent engagement for Reinhardt University. “We have great sponsorship opportunities available, and the great part about it all is that it raises scholarship money for students right here in Cherokee County.”
This year’s race falls on the same day as Reinhardt’s Homecoming football game. Visit the campus after the race to tailgate and see the Eagles play at Ken White Field at University Stadium at 1:30 p.m.
