On August 23, 2025, History Cherokee presented Reinhardt University with its Preservation Partner Award. The honor reads, “In recognition of exceptional stewardship of historic campus buildings and dedicated leadership in preserving the past while shaping a vibrant future.”

History Cherokee operates the Cherokee County History Center and the Historic Rock Barn in Canton, Georgia. Its mission is the collection, preservation, and interpretation of Cherokee County history. President Mark Roberts received the honor on behalf of the University during the Historic Preservation Awards Gala, which celebrated the organization’s 50th anniversary.

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the entire Reinhardt community, I want to thank History Cherokee for bestowing the honor of the Preservation Partnership recognition,” stated Dr. Roberts. “Reinhardt supports the study and the preservation of history in so many important ways — through faculty scholarship, through the Funk Heritage Center and Bennett History Museum, and through efforts to preserve historic buildings on campus. I am grateful to the leaders of History Cherokee for their long-standing preservation efforts and honoring those in our community who understand the importance of securing the story of our history for future generations.”
