President Kina Mallard speaks on a women’s leadership panel with other college presidents.

Reinhardt President Kina S. Mallard participated in the 2019 Leadership Women conference focusing on educating students for the ever-changing workforce.

Mallard shared the panel discussion with Dr. Mary Schmidt, president of Spelman College, and Leocadia “Lee” I. Zak, president of Agnes Scott College to address the topic “Educating Today’s Students for Tomorrow’s Workforce – New Initiatives – New Models.” The session was held at Agnes Scott College on Sept. 23 as part of a national three-day Conference in Atlanta.

“I was honored to be invited to speak with President Campbell and President Zak for such a wonderful organization that promotes women in leadership,” Mallard said. “It is my sincere hope that those in attendance will be inspired by our dialogue, realizing that leadership is not just a role but an approach to life.”

Dr. Tish Szymurski, assistant to the president on special projects, was on the planning committee and traveled with Dr. Mallard to the event.  She said more than 50 women from across the country attended, giving them the opportunity to learn from experienced female leaders and to network on a national scale.

“Each panelist talked about their journey toward their presidency, encouraging all to be bold, trust their instincts, be confident, take risks and embrace lifelong learning,” Szymurski said. “They also echoed the importance and value of a liberal arts education, as critical preparation for careers and lives.”

Mallard shared how faculty and staff at Reinhardt stress the importance of developing the whole person, not just as leaders in the world, but leaders for the world. She also discussed the importance of building sustainable relationships and mentioned some of Reinhardt’s recent partnerships with local governments and businesses that help further employee education toward building a strong workforce.

Szymurski said key takeaways from the event include tools and tips to propel leaders beyond their current roles, knowledge to sharpen their thinking, and cause for celebrating the power of connectedness.
