The Reinhardt Chorale performing at the First Baptist Church in Athens, Ga.

As the only collegiate group selected to perform at the Georgia Music Educators Association conference, The Reinhardt Chorale wowed the audience at First Baptist Church in Athens, Georgia last week.

The Chorale is comprised of Reinhardt University students, both music and non-music majors, who perform under the direction of Dr. Martha Shaw.

After leaving campus by bus in the early morning hours, rehearsing later in the morning and spending the day in Athens, The Reinhardt Chorale took to the stage after 8 p.m. Jan. 21, performing four selections: “Cantate Domino,” and three selections from “Romancero Guitano,” including “Gamelan,” “My Flight for Heaven” and “Walk Together Children.”

Music education major Jillian Fincher, of Cumming, attended her first GMEA conference her freshman year and appreciated being in a place where everyone was dedicated to education. She described this experience as “nothing short of amazing.”

“With education, you learn as much as you can in the classroom, but you really learn the most by teaching,” said Fincher. “Learning from experienced teachers and directors is reassuring because they have all been where my peers and I are now.”

Not only does Fincher plan to teach students in her future, she is also part of the Reinhardt Chorale and performed for the other students and educators in attendance.

“When I perform with my peers, I get transported to a world where the only thing that matters is music and changing lives through it.”

Reinhardt students and faculty attend the GMEA conference yearly, and previously performed at the 2015 conference.

The Reinhardt Chorale and Concert Choir will perform their Spring Concert on April 7 in Flint Hall. Tickets can be purchased online at
