Summer was victorious for Reinhardt University performing arts students who competed in the National Association of Teachers of Singing summer workshop last month.
Former dual enrollment student and incoming sophomore Victoria Hill and rising senior Tyler Smith were selected as semi-finalists in the national student auditions.
“These students had to be in the top five in their categories in the regional NATS Student Auditions, then were able to submit YouTube videos for the national round,” said Dr. Reverie Berger, Reinhardt University voice professor. “The top 14 from each category were then selected for the semi-finals which were held during the workshop in Boulder.”
Smith earned a spot as a semi-finalist in the Upper-level College Musical Theatre Men Category, and Hill made it to the finals of the High School Classical Women Category. Hill won first place in that division the following night.
Hill studies under Berger, and Smith studies under Dr. Rebecca Salter.
The National Student Auditions at regional NATS are a “long-standing tradition” that “offers the opportunity for the top performers in each region to compete with other top artists from around the country,” according to their website, www.nats.org.
“When our students see their peers receiving national accolades, it raises the bar and they all strive to be better performers,” Salter said.
In addition to the workshop, Berger and Hill sang in two master classes during the event in Boulder, Colorado.
