Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and First Lady Marty Kemp recognized the impactful work of Reinhardt Board of Trustee member and alumnus Randell E. Trammell (RU-2003 & 2009) with a Governor’s Award for the Arts and Humanities. The honor, presented in December, honors individuals and organizations for making significant contributions to making Georgia a more vibrant place. The awards are presented in partnership with the Georgia Council for the Arts and Georgia Humanities.

As a leader in youth and civic engagement, Dr. Trammell founded the Georgia Center for Civic Engagement and holds numerous leadership roles across civic and educational boards. For over two decades, he displayed dedication to empowering youth and enhancing civic education. “For me, the award is humbling, but it is less about me and more about elevating the work so that we can reach more students,” Dr. Trammel remarked. “We have been able to make a significant impact in Georgia and that’s expanding into other states, but there’s much more work to be done in ensuring that our students are prepared to participate fully as citizens when they graduate high school.”

Dr. Trammell’s innovative ideas led to groundbreaking ways for youth of every grade level to learn about their roles as citizens, enhance their civic knowledge, and develop their interest in government or public administration careers. Dr. Trammell’s efforts transformed the educational landscape while forging new connections between schools, industry leaders, and government officials. His dedication to humanities education enriches lives and strengthens communities.

Dr. Trammell is also committed to the futures of students at his alma mater explaining, “Reinhardt University is a large part of any success that I have enjoyed or will experience. Reinhardt was the lab where I was able to learn, develop, and grow in a safe environment guided by caring faculty and staff members. Reinhardt still provides that same environment for students to this day, which is why I am thrilled to be able to serve the University as a member of the Board of Trustees. Ensuring this special place and that same loving environment is around for many more generations to come is an honor, but also a great responsibility— one that I take seriously.”
