The Pickens Scholars program is geared up and ready to continue their efforts in providing educational opportunities at Reinhardt University for Pickens County residents.

The members of the Pickens Scholars committee expressed their associations with Reinhardt and love for Pickens County as they took turns introducing themselves to other members and vice president for advancement, Jon Baesman.

As a reminder for their purpose, Torie William’s mother represented for her by reading a message she wrote for the committee’s luncheon at the Pickens Chamber of Commerce building. Williams, a first-year sport studies major and business minor, said the scholarship and investment from the program is a blessing, adding that she plans to return the favor by continuing her investment in the Reinhardt community.

“I am extremely thankful to have received the Pickens County scholarship,” said Williams. “I came on a tour during the spring semester of my junior year. Although I had been on campus before, this time was very different because I was considering Reinhardt in my recruiting process. After going on a tour, meeting faculty and staff, and meeting with the coaches, I knew Reinhardt was where I was going to call ‘home.’”

Dale Morrissey, senior director of constituent engagement, is proud to see the amount of support from her hometown for her alma mater, where she has worked for and volunteered for many years.

“Pickens County has provided wonderful support since the beginning of this program. There are many residents of Pickens County who earn their college degrees at Reinhardt, and it is encouraging to see their community support them by raising scholarship money for the Pickens Scholar program through our events and fundraising efforts,” said Morrissey.

Pickens Chamber of Commerce president Amberle Godfrey will take on the role of committee chair for the third year in a row.

“It is so exciting to see this program grow for our students in Pickens County. We can never go wrong with investing in education,” said Godfrey.

Plans for the 3rd annual Shamrock Stroll .5K are already underway. Mark your calendars for March 14 at 2 p.m. to come out and have fun while providing education for Pickens County students.
