The Reinhardt Police Academy

As part of the Public Safety Institute, Reinhardt’s Police Academy is certified by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council and is authorized to deliver the Basic Law Enforcement Training Course.

Graduates of the Basic Law Enforcement Training Course earn P.O.S.T. Basic Peace Officer Certification and receive 15 semester hours of credit towards an associate degree in Criminal Justice.

Reinhardt University officials worked with a coalition of five cities: John’s Creek, Alpharetta, Milton, Roswell and Sandy Springs; plus Cherokee County and other interested communities in the Northern Crescent to found the Public Safety Institute.

Police Academy Entrance Requirements

Begin Your Law Enforcement Career at Reinhardt University

Minimum Requirements for Entry into the Police Academy:

Be at least 18 years of age;
Be a citizen of the United States;
Have a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent;
Not have been convicted of any felony violation of law;
Not have been convicted of sufficient number of misdemeanors which establishes a pattern of disregard for the law;
Be fingerprinted for the purpose of conducting a fingerprint search to determine the existence of any criminal record;
Possess good moral character as determined by a background investigation;
Be found free from any physical, emotional or mental conditions which might adversely affect one’s ability to perform the duties of a peace officer;
Successfully complete a job related academy entrance examination;

Application Process

1. Review Reinhardt University Police Academy Entrance Standards

2. Obtain the following required documents:

Official high school/ GED transcript. (Sealed Official Copies Only)
Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended whether the applicant graduated or not (Sealed Official Copies Only)
Official SAT or ACT scores if you are a beginning freshman or transfer freshman (not required for applicants 21 or older) to be considered for acceptance into Reinhardt University. Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council’s application on all police academy applicants, require either SAT, ACT, Asset or COMPASS scores that meet state minimum score requirements.
Original high school / GED diploma (required in addition to transcript)
Original college diploma for highest degree earned (required in addition to transcript)
Original birth certificate or certified copy with raised seal
Certified Georgia driver’s history obtained from Georgia Department of Driver Services for the last 7 years
Certified driver’s history from any other state that applicant has held a license in during the last 10 years
Original or certified copy of DD-214 (member 4 version) Required if applicants served in the U.S. Armed Forces
Valid Georgia drivers license
Social Security Card
Documentation verifying all legal name changes since birth (i.e. marriage, divorce, other).
Other documentation is required for naturalized U.S. Citizens (contact Rich Nable for details).

3. Once required documents have been obtained, contact the Admissions Office at admissions@reinhardt.edu or 770.720.5526 to schedule an appointment.

4. Bring all required documents to the scheduled meeting. An initial review of applicant qualifications will be conducted and remaining processes will be explained.

Applicants are highly encouraged to begin this process at least 15 weeks prior to start date.

Course Schedules

Academy sessions are outlined as follows; a new class starts each semester at Reinhardt University.

Police Academy Candidates attend classes Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays from 5:45 PM to 10:00 PM AND Saturdays from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
