The Cherokee County Historical Society has selected two beautiful, historic homes on the Reinhardt University campus as part of its annual Tour of Homes Oct. 20-21.

The President’s Home and the Evelyn Gordy Rankin Hospitality House will be open to Historical Society eventgoers Oct. 20 from 5 – 9 p.m. and Oct. 21, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event supports the Historical Society’s education and preservation programs.

The President’s Home at Reinhardt University, along with the Evelyn Gordy Rankin Hospitality House, will be featured on the Cherokee County Historical Society’s Tour of Homes Oct. 20-21.

“Reinhardt is honored to be a part of this great community event and to have two beautiful houses included in the Tour of Homes,” said Reinhardt President Dr. Kina S. Mallard.

The President’s Home was built in 1977 and was modeled after “Belle Meade,” the home of past Board of Trustee Chair Peter S. Knox. The President’s Home underwent a renovation in 2015 with Martha McIntyre Hasty, wife of current Reinhardt Board of Trustees Chair Bill Hasty, overseeing the interior design.

The Gordy Hospitality House was moved from Atlanta to Waleska in four pieces in 1991. The home, originally built in 1929 in Atlanta, was donated by Evelyn Gordy-Rankin ‘24 after her husband’s death, the late Reinhardt Trustee Frank Gordy. The home had been a Christmas gift to her in the 1940s, and she knew the house would be at home on Reinhardt University’s campus, where the Gordy family’s love and legacy continues.

“I am thrilled that two historically significant and prestigious homes on the Reinhardt University campus are part of the Cherokee County Historical Society tour of homes this year along with four homes in Canton. Those who take the tour will get a chance to visit the Reinhardt President’s Home, which will be a rare chance to see this outstanding and beautifully decorated property,” said Rebecca Johnston, volunteer, board member and immediate past president of the Cherokee County Historical Society.

Johnston is the head docent at the Gordy Hospitality House – one of her longtime favorites among historical homes in the community.

“Its rich history and beautiful detailing make a visit to see this home an unforgettable experience,” Johnston said.

Tickets cost $25 ($20 for Historical Society members) and are available at Northside Pharmacy in Waleska. In addition, tickets can be purchased at the Cherokee County History Museum & Visitors’ Center, Chamberhouse, Christine’s Creations, Three Sisters Gifts and Home Accents and Jasper Drug Store.
