Rev. Brian Smith

Next Sunday, Waleska United Methodist Church will welcome the newly appointed Rev. Brian Smith for his first service with the congregation.

Rev. Tim Emmett, who accepted a new church appointment himself, served Waleska UMC for nine years, often collaborating with Reinhardt University for Easter Sunrise Services and Trunk-or-Treat, among other events.

“We have been blessed to have Pastor Tim at our church for nine years and appreciate his many contributions,” said Ralph Lumpkin, chairperson of the Staff Parish Relations Committee at Waleska. “We are excited to welcome Rev. Smith and his wife Jordan to Waleska. Pastor Brian’s gifts and talents will be a blessing to the Waleska United Methodist Church congregation and the greater Waleska community.”

“I am excited about the opportunity to serve as the next pastor at Waleska UMC and to move into the community,” said Smith. “My wife Jordan and I look forward to being a part of this great church where God is at work and where we all can find the love and grace of God.”

The church, located on Reinhardt’s campus, signed an agreement with the University to continue their collaborating efforts. Smith will work together with Reinhardt’s Director of Spiritual Life and Service, Josh Garner, on a variety of campus events such as Opening Worship Service, Thanksgiving Service and Commencement.

“Reinhardt University would like to welcome Rev. Brian Smith to the Reinhardt community. We look forward to working together with the Waleska UMC congregation and inviting them to collaborating events,” said Dr. Mark Roberts, interim president.

Smith will also serve on the President’s Advisory Council and associated committees, and provide pastoral care to faculty, staff and students during times of crisis.

Smith served as associate pastor at the First Methodist Church of Marietta, Ga. for six years. Previously, he was pastor at Cokesbury United Methodist Church in Hartwell, Ga. Smith completed seminary at Duke Divinity School and received his bachelor’s degree in religion from Birmingham-Southern College.
