Dr. Mark Roberts, Interim President of Reinhardt University, with Lt. Colonel Thomas Pinyan of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, presented a plaque at the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners meeting to honor Reinhardt’s first ExCL graduates from the CSO.

At the most recent Cherokee County Board of Commissioners meeting, the first Cherokee Sheriff’s Office graduates from the Executive Command and Leadership program were honored with plaques to signify the occasion and the student’s efforts.

The Reinhardt University Public Safety Institute launched the Executive Command and Leadership program in 2018 with the mission of educating and preparing professionals for increasing levels of responsibility within public service. The two-year program leads to the award of a Master of Public Administration. It also satisfies the training requirements needed to earn career development certifications through the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council.

“This high-quality, practice-oriented, research-based ethics focused program…was made possible due in large part to a vision that was shared with the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office and Reinhardt’s interim president, Mark Roberts, which ultimately led to the creation of educational pathways for public safety professionals,” said Trey Drawdy, director of the Public Safety Institute and interim dean of the school of professional studies. “On behalf of Reinhardt University, we want to thank your agency for its commitment to encouraging others to pursue excellence through ongoing personal, professional and academic development,” Drawdy continued.

“We are very, very proud to be in this county, to serve this county, to serve this region – especially through our programs for law enforcement,” said Roberts.

Congratulations to the following Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office graduates:

Lieutenant William Ballard

Captain Erik Britt

Lieutenant James Cox

Lieutenant Todd Shinall

Lieutenant Christopher Straus

Corporal Tommy Thompkins

Sergeant Mike Wells
